Raj Mahale is a leading investment management and M&A attorney based in New York City. He offers in-depth knowledge on emerging market matters and brings nearly three decades of experience advising businesses involved in India, South East Asia, China and the Middle East markets. As partner and lead counsel of KPPB LAW’s Investment Management practice, he regularly advises various funds and fund managers in all aspects of their business.
Raj also advises leading U.S. and global investment managers, funds, and investors. He has extensive experience structuring private placement memorandums (PPMs) and forming hedge funds, private equity funds, venture capital funds and various feeder fund structures. Raj also advises on all aspects of operational needs, securities laws and regulatory/compliance issues for investment funds, hedge funds, fund-of-funds, feeders, offshore funds, and other pooled investment vehicles with fund formation, fundraising, acquisitions, dispositions, restructurings, M&A, compliance, and regulatory matters pursuant to the Investment Company Act of 1940 or the “40 Act.”

In addition to his professional legal affiliations, he is a member of the U.S.-India Business Council, chair of the advisory board for the University of Texas McCombs School of Business; secretary and member of the board of directors for South Asian Bar Association (SABAC) and a grant committee member for the Exchange Club of New Canaan.
Prior to joining KPPB LAW in 2018, Raj was a partner in the corporate and investment management practice with Tannenbaum Halpern. He has served as a chair of Cozen O’Connor’s India Practice Group and served as a partner in its corporate and investment funds practice. Raj provides pro bono legal counsel to various non-profits and speaks Hindi, Marathi, and Spanish. He is based in KPPB LAW’s New York City office.
