KPPB LAW Part of GIACC Delegation that Presented at the Annual Convention of the Indo American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) in India

KPPB LAW Partners Kirtan Patel and Beeraj Patel were part of the Georgia Indo American Chamber of Commerce (GIACC) delegation that traveled to the Annual Convention of the IACC, held in Mumbai, India, on August 22 and 23, 2016. The GIACC delegation consisted of GIACC board member, Anita Ninan, Of Counsel, Arnall Golden Gregory LLP; GIACC board member Siva Nathan, associate professor, Georgia State University; Dr. Pamila Dembla, executive director, ICA (“India China America”) Institute and associate professor, Kennesaw State University. During the convention, the IACC presented a life time achievement award to the Late Aditya Birla of the Birla group of global companies. Atlanta’s connection to the Indian Birla group of companies began with the group’s acquisition of Novelis, in 2012. The GIACC delegation was one of two U.S. delegations to attend the Annual Convention of the IACC, themed, “Unleashing US-India Economic Synergy. The two day convention was attended by India’s top policy makers and top decision makers of Indian and U.S companies in a variety of sectors including, Banking, Insurance and Financial services, Oil and Gas, Infrastructure, Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals, Digital India and Energy.

What Are the Hot Topics in International Law?

During the 2016 national NAMWOLF conference in Houston, KPPB LAW founding partner Sonjui Kumar moderated a panel to review and discuss “Hot Topics in International Law” as the co-chair of NAMWOLF’s International Law PAC. The panel discussed liabilities of acts of overseas subsidiaries; lack of attorney/client privilege for in-house counsel in foreign jurisdictions; best practices on selecting foreign counsel; choice of law provision in contracts; and best or recommended arbitration forums based on country of operation. Kumar joined her NAMWOLF law colleagues Rick A. Hammond, Eric R. Swanson, Lisa Savitt and Larry R. Schmadeka for the international law panel. During the 2016 national NAMWOLF conference, KPPB LAW also participated in the law firm meet and greet with in-house counsel conference attendees from around the country. Kumar Named Co-Chair of NAMWOLF’s New International Law PAC

Partner Sonjui Kumar has been named a co-chair of the International Law Practice Area Committee for NAMWOLF. The International Law PAC concentrates on cross-border matters of all types, including litigation, intellectual property, regulatory and transactional matters. The PAC provides a forum for its members to communicate and exchange interpretation and development of laws and policies governing international commerce. In addition, the PAC serves as a platform for its members to cultivate best practices, to address current issues, and to build relationships with one another.

KPPB LAW staff (Bidisha Idnani, Kirtan Patel, Sonjui Kumar and Radha Thiagarajan) continue the firm's decade-long support of the South Asian Bar Association of North America (SABANA). The team attended SABA's 13th annual convention from May 13-15 in Houston to collaborate with and support the SABA community.
