What Are the Hot Topics in International Law?

During the 2016 national NAMWOLF conference in Houston, KPPB LAW founding partner Sonjui Kumar moderated a panel to review and discuss “Hot Topics in International Law” as the co-chair of NAMWOLF’s International Law PAC. The panel discussed liabilities of acts of overseas subsidiaries; lack of attorney/client privilege for in-house counsel in foreign jurisdictions; best practices on selecting foreign counsel; choice of law provision in contracts; and best or recommended arbitration forums based on country of operation. Kumar joined her NAMWOLF law colleagues Rick A. Hammond, Eric R. Swanson, Lisa Savitt and Larry R. Schmadeka for the international law panel. During the 2016 national NAMWOLF conference, KPPB LAW also participated in the law firm meet and greet with in-house counsel conference attendees from around the country. Kumar Named Co-Chair of NAMWOLF’s New International Law PAC

Partner Sonjui Kumar has been named a co-chair of the International Law Practice Area Committee for NAMWOLF. The International Law PAC concentrates on cross-border matters of all types, including litigation, intellectual property, regulatory and transactional matters. The PAC provides a forum for its members to communicate and exchange interpretation and development of laws and policies governing international commerce. In addition, the PAC serves as a platform for its members to cultivate best practices, to address current issues, and to build relationships with one another.

KPPB LAW Partner Sonjui Kumar presented Hot Topics In Due Diligence for Mergers and Acquisitions Transactions on Feb. 18 in New Delhi. Her presentation is part of the India-United States Cross Border Investment 2.0: Counseling in Reform Environments, a legal conference in New Delhi, India, sponsored by the Society of Law Firms (SILF), and co-sponsored by the American Bar Association, Section of International Law. The conference features topics of current interest to U.S. and Indian lawyers counseling clients in cross border investments and transactions. Sonjui presented and attended the conference with KPPB LAW partners Kirtan Patel and Beeraj Patel.
